Abstract:
The crossing of disciplinary boundaries is one of the main issues being
addressed in this study which is directed towards the development of materials
design and manufacturing courses by the team-teaching approach. The proposed
approach allows the pooling of resources from different academic units
and also encourages students as well as faculty to transcend the disciplinary
boundaries. This paper reports our experiences of team teaching a freshman
level materials design course. Four faculty members from Ceramic, Chemical,
Civil and Electrical Engineering participated in this experimental project.
The concepts introduced in this project are equally applicable to manufacturing
courses.
